Blood Sugar Balance & Insulin Sensitivity
To assess vanadyl sulfate (vanadium) effects on insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes.
Study Type
Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled
Purpose
To assess vanadyl sulfate (vanadium) effects on insulin sensitivity in type 2 diabetes.
Dose
Vanadyl sulfate 150mg daily (equivalent to 31mg vanadium)
Participants
16 patients with type 2 diabetes
Duration
3 weeks
Results
Vanadyl sulfate significantly improved insulin-stimulated glucose disposal. Fasting glucose reduced. HbA1c trend downward. Vanadium mimics insulin action via protein tyrosine phosphatase inhibition.
How They Measured It
Insulin sensitivity (euglycemic clamp), fasting glucose, HbA1c
To evaluate vanadyl sulfate on body composition and strength in weight training subjects.
Study Type
Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled
Purpose
To evaluate vanadyl sulfate on body composition and strength in weight training subjects.
Dose
Vanadyl sulfate 0.5mg/kg daily
Participants
31 weight training subjects
Duration
12 weeks
Results
Modest improvements in upper and lower body strength. No significant body composition changes. Vanadyl sulfate safe but performance effects modest in healthy exercising subjects.
How They Measured It
Body composition, 1RM bench press, leg press, insulin levels
